Second and fourth Tuesdays: how to read a Vacaville council meeting
Regular Vacaville City Council meetings fall on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m., in the council chambers at 650 Merchant Street. Under the municipal code, the agenda has to be final by 7 p.m. on the Friday before.
That Friday deadline is your best friend. The agenda packet holds the staff report for each item: what’s proposed, the recommended action, and the fiscal impact. Consent calendar items are grouped and usually pass in one vote unless someone pulls one out for discussion, so read that list carefully.
Public comment is open to anyone. You can speak on agenda items when they come up and on other city business during the general comment period, within the time limit the presiding officer sets. If you can’t attend, check the city’s agenda page for the current ways to watch and to submit written comments.
Coming up: a first-timer’s guide to council meetings, and the public comment habits that actually get a staff follow-up.
